Tree Trimming / Removal

If you wish to have a tree on your property removed or trimmed and would like to have an outside company perform the work, you must hire a licensed tree company. In addition to trimming the tree or cutting it down, the licensed tree company must dispose of the branches, etc. Branches, debris, etc., are not to be left behind and placed at the curb for City brush pickup.

City ordinance 88-70 states that a license is required to perform tree trimming and tree removal work by companies within corporation limits of the City of St. Marys. There is an annual fee of $25 to obtain a license. City ordinance Number 88-70, in part states:

"It shall be unlawful for any person or firm to engage in the business or occupation of pruning, treating, or removing trees within the City of St. Marys without first of all applying for and procuring a license. The application for said license shall be reviewed and approved by the Tree Commission. The license fee shall be $25 (twenty-five dollars) annually in advance, provided, however, that no license shall be required for any public service endeavors. Before any license shall be issued, each applicant shall first file evidence of liability insurance in the minimum amount of $100,000 for bodily injury and $100,000 property damage indemnifying the City for any person injured or damage resulting from the pursuit of such endeavors as herein described. All vehicles used in the operation of such an endeavor as described above shall have the company name displayed legibly and prominently on all vehicles and shall display the city license in plain view."

From this date forward, this ordinance will be strictly enforced. All applicants, whether for renewal or new licensing, must fill out an application (see below) and mail or deliver to:
